TrendSetta: Is It Okay to Match Your Boo?

One of the things that me and my girlfriends have a gripe with is when couples go out and not hold hands or kiss in public, but wear the same colors or even clothes out together. It was cute in high school, but does it resonate the same effect when the couple in their 40’s? Some celebrity couples have been caught publicly matching their boos, most recently fashionista Kim Kardashian and fashion connoisseur Kanye West. They tend to match outfits that reflect their love for fashion and their egos, but this fashion blogger is here to argue that there are more clever ways to match your babe without inducing nausea to everyone around you.

Coordinating Colors: You both don’t have to wear the same blue, okay? It may be cute to you, but matchy-matchy is not in at the moment, color blocking is. This means you work together as a couple to put together colors that work well together. You can definitely look like a couple without it being painfully obvious. For instance, the lady can wear a solid color or print dress and the gentleman can wear the same color/print in his garments such as suit shirt, jacket lining, and pocket square or other accessories to set off the outfit. This requires communication and a little bit of searching, but when you find that right outfit, it will come together beautifully.

Pay attention to details: Fashion statements are best made with those little details. Now I will give it to Kim for taking the effort to wear “K W” earrings with her outfit, most likely the initials of her beau Kanye. It’s cute and couply, but not necessarily matchy-matchy. If you and your significant other are not wearing wedding bands, then that’s okay because there are so many other ways to rock jewelry together  such as dog tags with a special date or message on them, bracelets for men and women, his and hers watches, the list can go on. It doesn’t stop at jewelry for those little details, but it’s a great and fashionable start to match your love.

Pay compliments to your partner’s tastes: He is a Giants fan, but you could care less about football. Switch it up for one day (just one ladies!) and get a feminine jersey or top that belongs to your boo’s favorite team. Old Navy, Victoria’s Secret, and other stores have caught on to this trend and have tees and apparel for female sports fans too. You can surprise your beau on a date by wearing the shirt to show that you care about what he is interested in, thinking about him, or just want to have something to remember him in fashion. Guys, this can go the same for your ladies by wearing their favorite band on a shirt or musical artist that you both love to listen too. This requires you to know what your partner likes and then taking it a notch up and applying it to your fashion game.

See, there are other options besides wearing the same shade of red or anything else that completely matches. You want to complement your love, not copy and paste it.
