Loving YOU! Its A Lifestyle
How often do we forget as my boy Katt Williams said, “You have to take care of your star player” (lol). How can you give yourself what you don’t have to offer? Loving yourself goes beyond treating yourself to a mani and a pedi which are all nice but we have to get to the root of loving ourselves inside and out. Meaning giving yourself a love that you can feel in your soul! If you don’t love yourself how do you expect others to love you? People run around crazy worrying about other people and fail to realize they are putting themselves on the back burner.
One way to show love to yourself is to make sure you are up on your daily check-ups, mammograms and physicals. 90% of African-American woman suffer from some type of illness and or disease simply because they didn’t make time to see their doctor on a regular basis. Failing to take 30 minutes out of your day for an appointment could result in a lifetime full of suffering.
Another way of loving yourself is to eat the right foods. When you put yourself on a balanced eating schedule you will notice the difference in your energy level and your ability to be proactive in many situations. Of course no one wants to eat rabbit food all day, and trust there is nothing wrong with treating yourself to a dessert or a full sized meal every now and then, but just don’t make it your everyday habit. Drink plenty of water because it really is good for your skin. Join a club or membership with people that have a common interest. That gives you the opportunity to share your thoughts and talents, and it’s very healthy for your social life.
Treat yourself to something nice every now and then. Now don’t go and blow your budget and blame it on loving yourself because you are not going to be loving yourself while stressing over how to make ends meet after you’ve went and purchased an item that cost half of your rent!
Start looking at yourself in the mirror and instead of finding all the flaws, pull out all the things that make you unique and appreciate that. Believe it or not what you consider a “flaw” the next woman is paying to get it! Weird but oh so true. Take pride in yourself, if there is something you really don’t like about yourself, change it…over weight, exercise…don’t like your hair length…add some!
Stop wasting moments of your life dwelling on things you can’t change and understand God made all of us in such a unique fashion, appreciate yourself and thank him for being you! Last but not least, SMILE on purpose! Even in your darkest hour, find the humor of the situation and smile about it. Smiling is also a way of keeping yourself healthy, it reduces wrinkles. So take a moment and think about all the wonderful things that make you love yourself first everyday…because if you don’t love you, who else will?
