Blogger Bio: Lakia Brandenburg (Picture Perfect)
The thought of living a “real-life” happily ever after story was a figment of Lakia’s imagination. You see, Lakia was like most little girls. She was sold a dream that women are supposed to marry their “prince charming” and clip clop away in the sunset and live happily ever after. But as life unfolded, somehow several chapters of this picture perfect story were missing. The perception that was painted for Lakia portrayed a different tale.
Raised in the suburban-area of Hyattsville, Maryland, Lakia didn’t truly understand the meaning of marriage and the love that was shared in it. Her first example of love was found in an unhealthy marriage with her now divorced parents. Her perception was soiled. Love was dishonest. Love was painful. Love was confusing. Love had nothing to do with her father both physically and mentally abusing her mother. For her, love was cruel. She also witnessed love in many casual forms of unfaithful relationships. Love was exploited. By now, love had a bad reputation.
On a journey of growth, Lakia discovered that love was a decision. She had the power to create the love that she desired. It made perfect sense. Love was gentle. Love was kind. Love was patient. She was no longer subjected to the examples that were provided for her. She now had the power to use the imperfections to create a new love that was simply picture perfect. Today LB believes that she is a living example that real love does exist. I guess you can say that fairy tales do come true.
Lakia is an accomplished writer and educator with a heart for love and relationships. She’s written for Gospel Today and has freelanced for top national magazines such as Upscale. As an educator, she is devoted to building healthy relationships in and out of the classroom where she teaches and mentors 7th grade boys. Her rapport and unique approach to teaching her “distinguished gentlemen of purpose” earned her a nomination for Teacher of the Year. Lakia believes that anyone who desires bliss, love, and happiness in their marriage no longer has to fantasize about it…they just simply have to create it to be their reality.
