Energetic. Personable. Spiritually grounded. Inspiring. These are just some of the words that describe Emmy Award-winning multimedia journalist Shannon Antonio Lanier.
As an author, national television show correspondent/senior producer, event host/emcee, and real estate agent, Lanier knows all too well the importance of being a well-rounded individual. This renaissance man, loves doing a little bit of everything from home improvement projects and fishing, to mentoring and doing skits at church. Lanier believes that all of his interests help him be a more effective communicator, allowing the flexibility to navigate a variety of topics with anyone.
One of Lanier’s most popular discussion topics is his lineage as a 9th generation descendant of President Thomas Jefferson and his slave Sally Hemings. At only 19 years old the Cincinnati native co-authored the Random House book Jefferson’s Children: The Story of One American Family. He’s toured around the world discussing his family and living out his true passions of being a public figure and TV personality. With those outlets, Lanier continues to empower and inspire others through international speaking engagements on a range of topics including multiculturalism, genealogy, entrepreneurship, breaking into and understanding TV/media, and achieving your dreams.
In 2004, the Kent State University grad made his New York City debut as a segment producer for the CBS2 Morning Show and didn’t waste any time getting in front of the audience. It doesn’t matter if it’s on TV, hosting an event, or moderating/sitting on a panel, when a crowd is gathered, Lanier is drawn to it. One of his former bosses at CBS, says, “Once Shannon’s “on,” the audience is glued. He’s born to be a star.”
Today Lanier is a correspondent/senior producer for Black Enterprise Magazine’s nationally syndicated TV show, “Black Enterprise Business Report,” where he features stories on inspiring small business owners. He also hosts the web segment “Celebrity Hustle,” featuring famous people recollecting their first job before they were stars and their secret side hustles. Lanier’s come a long way from co-hosting the Emmy award winning local TV show “Real Exchange” when he was just a teenager.
Despite Lanier’s busy schedule, he still finds time to be an active member of his church as well as Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and the National Association of Black Journalists. Most importantly he makes time for his wife/college sweetheart, Chandra and their newborn daughter, Madison.
