Trendsetta: Met Gala Trends and Hits

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC celebrated its annual Met Gala with the theme “PUNK: chaos to couture” for its spring exhibition. This is a huge time for fashion-obsessed celebrities to wear their most daring, avant garde, and extreme looks that they could not get away with anywhere else. It’s a fashion designers showcase and I peeped a few trends on the red carpet, as well as some looks to point out.

Dark Lips:

Dark, vampy lips were present at the Met Gala on May 6th. Artists like Katy Perry (Dolce & Gabana) and Nikki Minaj (Tommy Hilfiger) rocked the dark berry lipstick. The look is a dark and gloss-free lip look and is daring for the spring time. They weren’t the only ones to wear the makeup trend, mommy to be Kim Kardashian also wore dark lips with a full body dress (by Riccardo Tisci) covered in florals. The dress did not flatter her at all, but it was good to see her man Kanye by her side for the event. Other celebs spotted with dark lipstick were Mindy Kaling and Julie Macklowe.

White and Bright:

Other celebs came in bright colors such as Gwyneth Paltrow in a bright pink Valentino Couture gown and NFL star Tom Brady in an electric blue tuxedo jacket. The other hot color for every spring and summer is white, as seen on stars Rooney Mara (Givenchy), Sienna Miller (Burberry), Nicole Richie (Topshop) and Katie Holmes (Calvin Klein), Rita Ora (Thakoon) and Tiger Wood’s new boo, Lindsey Vonn.

Bold and Daring:

Lastly, we have the haute couture looks that either made you clap or made you click over to the next photo with the quickness. I loved JLO’s fitted gown with flesh base and black dotted print all over. It shows that she’s still got her sexy in her 40s, one of my favorites of the night for sure. Model Chanel Iman wore a bit of pink in her hair along with a strapless black and white striped gown that gave the slender beauty curves. Beyonce was bold with a strapless black Givenchy gown with gold embroidered trim with matching boots. Madonna came to the Met with the punk theme in mind, wearing studs, fishnets, spikes and pretty in pink heels, the look by Givenchy and Casadei shoes.

So I know what’s on my trends list: dark lips, neon and white, and Casadei shoes! Be bold ladies and gents, do it your way and have fun with fashion!
