Brotha TalkThe BigRich Chronicles

Richard’s Room: Finale (pt.4 of 4)

I’m just saying, you could do better
Tell me have you heard that lately
I’m just saying you could do better
And I’ll start hating, only if you make me

Now we are making our one and only plea. Basically it is a man saying that she could have done better by staying with us. As though she conveniently forgot the shit we put her through. We do not want to hate on the new dude, we do not even want to talk about the new dude, but we have to get in our final pitch for ourselves somehow.

[Drake on the phone]
You’re not going to come”
Guess I’m bout to just kick it here then

That is the flag of surrender. We laid it all out there for ya. We threw our best shit at ya and you still did not come over. Oh well, guess I better stay here and do what I do.

There are some other minor parts to the song that I am not putting in there because the meat of the song has been explained. What the song embodies is a man trapped in his own success who does not know how to fully handle it and does not know how to appropriately express it. The song goes deeper by wrapping the inability to handle success around the fact that the man has lost the one woman who would have been best equipped to help him through his shortcomings.

ANY man, that has been successful at something in life, will fully understand that. I can tell you, BigRich understands it fully and has the battle scars to prove it. So ladies, when you are listening to the song, or wondering why one of your old men keeps calling you at odd times, maybe what BigRich just told you will pop in your head. Not because I am good with words, but because I just told you the truth.

Interesting, I’ve never heard this song before, but I’ll check it out now. I appreciate the way you gave us ladies a glimpse of what possibly goes through a man’s mind when dealing with issues surrounding success and a broken heart. Drakes song was the perfect segue.
