Still Standing: A Documentary On Marriages That Survived Crisis [Review]
Last night I attended the Atlanta premier of Still Standing, a documentary featuring black couples and their stories of how their marriages survived crisis. The film is the brain child of the power house team Lamar & Ronnie Tyler, the founders of BlackandMarriedwithKids.com. We first mentioned the duo in our article 14 Most Inspiring Black Couples of 2012 back in February. And with this latest project, you will have no doubt how Lamar & Ronnie made our list.
In true ‘Tyler Fashion’ the event sold out (twice)! I’m not sure if the the customers at Midtown Art Cinema knew just what to make of all the fanfare and paparazzi, LOL. I mean all this for an independent film about Black marriage? Well with last night’s blockbuster crowd, I say TAKE THAT Hollywood!
If you believe in Black love and marriage, and I think you do if you are on this site, then this is a film you simply MUST see. As I sat in the movie theater thoroughly focused on getting ‘the message’ I actually experienced something quite different. As soon as the film started, the energy in the auditorium changed. We all laughed, ahh’d, were inspired and a few of us were moved to tears. I felt totally connected to an audience full of strangers. How could this be??!! Well its simple, we all love and admire the Tylers and we ALLL love BLACK LOVE. Did I mention that you MUST see this film? Check out the details below to get your copy.
From Lamar & Ronnie Tyler the creators of Happily Ever After and You Saved Me comes the next installment of timeless love stories. A diverse group of couples provide transparent, insightful conversation about what it takes to have lasting power in current day marriages.
