Trendsetta: Global, Affordable Designers For Spring
For women, fashion is coming alive this spring by making a few colorful changes. Instead of the regular looks we see every spring like the nautical theme and eyelet pastels, we’re getting a brighter, “summery” spring with African inspiration and bold colors. This is thanks to two of many designers who are teaming up with discount stores to give the masses what they need for the spring.
Before Valentine’s Day you may have seen the ads for these neon and floral creations by Prabal Gurung. Instead of it being for some high end store, the line was created for Target customers. The whole collection is different and fashion forward for the upcoming season, I had to get one of the tops ($20) myself. The colors are mostly in bright neon yellow, apple red, blue and black/white/multi; all are complementary to our skin tones. If you go to your local Target you still may be able to find some of these pieces, but like when designers come to Target, die hard fashion curators buy them up first and sell them for a higher price on Ebay or other online stores. Target’s site still has pieces available as well.
Another collection to look out for this season is the London based designer Duro Olowu’s collection for JC Penney. JCP is pulling out the big names for their loyal customers and to attracting some new ones with this designer who fuses African themes and classic silhouettes. Olowu is like Gurung with the bold colors and use of print, but this collection is less neon and more multi-print. Gurung has more shoes, but Olowu has the upper hand on accessories and bags. They look well put together and are impressively unique pieces for the fashionista on a budget. My favorite accessory by Olowu is this multi-colored clutch, high design for a low price of $30. What else will you find this spring? Ditch the boring stripes and lace and get some color in your life! With the lines available at these stores, you can get pieces from both designers while they last. Which collection do you like more?
